create Your story - heroines journey, arts psychotherapy & narrative therapy
Being able to express trauma can be very validating and healing. Although how can we do this if words don’t come easily? Or our memories are jumbled or simply not there? Sometimes talking about it can only get us so far.
If you are looking for a way to tell your story, through a healing journey that acknowledges life changing events, the deep valleys, adverse personalities and situations that have affected you and then shows you your strengths and resilience and gifts, then this is for you.
Maureen Murdock, therapist and author, created the Heroines journey. It’s a circle of life experience, setting the path to show the main character as the Heroine, after many trials and tribulations. Create Your Story is based on this.
This journey also sits within the Narrative Therapy framework of showing the problem as the problem not the person as the problem. Allowing us to externalise and open up the situation or challenge and look at it. Immersing yourself in a creative way to tell your story, augments this process. Through illustration, photography, creatively writing, clay and more. The options are endless and all are correct as they come from you. And this book tells you how to do that.
Once you have completed your story, having someone you trust to read it or show it to, is an essential ingredient, and its called witnessing. This is a powerful and validating part of the process. There are two versions of the workbook:-
one for masculine/feminine and non binary, them, they their pronouns; and
one only using the them, they, their pronouns.
Get the most out of the book whilst in therapy or by being supported by an Arts Psychotherapist. It’s still very effective if done by yourself or in a group. Or, if you would like more supporting in keeping on track with the steps, there is an option to join the video & live sessions.*
* Create Your Story is not a substitute for one on one individualised therapy. If you require extra support at any time, please seek it out. See our Resources for services.
