Contacting someone that you trust that has the correct understanding of sexual violence and trauma, someone who will be compassionate and seek to understand you and help you in everyway they can - a peer, counsellor, social worker, arts psychotherapist psychologist or psychiatrist to sit one on one and be supported. In Australia, a GP can create a mental health plan for you so that you can access professionals at low cost. There are some services listed here Resources. You may also be eligible for Victims Assist, a government funded service, that can be a source for funding for support, although contact as soon as possible after an event, there can be long wait times.
Connect
Group work (being in therapeutic space with others), ebook, self nurturing, meeting friends who have gone through similar experiences to you that you can talk with. Calling helplines and utilising online or paper resources. These are all things that can help to support you.
There are many ways that you can be supported and be supportive. These aren’t ways just for sexual violence and can be used for any situation requiring support in life.
